Wake-up fruit smoothie

For a quick and easy energy boost in the morning, try a smoothie

Place 80g of blueberries, 1 small banana (peeled), 150ml of semi-skimmed milk or apple juice (your choice) and 1 teaspoon of honey (omit if preferred) in a blender & blend until smooth. Add nuts, hemp seeds, flaxseed or wheatgerm for protein and extra nutrients and wheat bran for extra fibre. Serve in a large glass.

For variety, replace the berries with any soft fruits that are in season. Use frozen or tinned fruit if preferred.

Energy balls – try these home-made energy balls to beat the afternoon slump

Soak 10 pitted medjool dates in hot water for 10 minutes. Drain. Blitz with one tablespoon of cocoa, one tablespoon of desiccated coconut and 100g pecan nuts or hemp. Add a little rapeseed oil to bind if required. Roll into balls and cover in cocoa.
